History of NMG

Mountain guides profession of Nepalese mountaineers started in 1891 AD as local mountain guides. Maximum Nepalese mountain guides were isolated from formal academics and about mountaineering education.  

Now, Nepalese mountain guides are involving academic education and technical training well. Nepalese mountain guides are recognized by the government of Nepal as well. They were engaged with so many missions as nearby mountain guides and contributed their self-dauntlessness to achieve a major vanquish in Himalayan mountaineering history.

Formally basic mountaineering technical training was begun in 1979 AD. The first mountaineering course was started by (late Ales Kunaver) Yugoslavia Alpine Club. he was from Slovenia; He cooperated with some other European countries for basic mountaineering technical training with Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

After that’s advance level mountaineering training completed jointly with National School of Ski and Alpinism (ENSA) Chamonix France. In joint inception of NMA and ENSA, they provide a great opportunity to send Nepalese mountain guides for Chamonix, France to participate in the advance level training conducted by ENSA  from 1982 to till 2000 AD. There are around 36 of Nepalese mountain guides who are trained from ENSA. At a similar time, Yves Pollet Villard Foundation (YPVF) positioned in France resolved to be a functioning office to help the expert mountain manage schooling in Nepal. NMA provided BMT for 1,304 and Advance Mountaineering Training (AMT) for 392 Mountain guides. Now, NMA organizes Basic Advance mountaineering courses annually as year.
